What I hadn't realised from the blurb is that story is set about 50 years in the future - this only dawned on me some time into the story! The plot itself was OK, and there are some nice twists and turns in the story, but for me it was spoilt by the totally incredible (in the literal sense) identity of the sociopathic serial killer! The narrator for the most part does a great job, the only exception being her Irish accent. The main protagonist is New York cop Eve Dallas and she sets about trying to solve the apparently motiveless killing of an elementary school teacher. This book is number 24 in the "in death" series, but it is the first one that I have read/listened to. Keeping that in mind may help her solve this case at last. Still, she'll have to put aside her anger, jealousy, and heartbreak, for a while at least - because another man has just turned up dead, and the case is taking some strange turns and hitting some frustrating dead ends.Įve knows all too well that innocence can be a façade. And he insists that the occasional lunch or business meeting with her is nothing to worry about.and none of Eve's business.Įve's so unnerved by the situation that she finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. Unfortunately, Roarke seems blind to Magdelana's manipulation, but not to her shapely figure and flirtatious ways.
